Since
1996, the Office of General Treasurer has had administrative responsibility
for the victim compensation program. The state has operated a compensation
program since 1972.
FUNDING
The program receives $150 for each major felony conviction, and $90
for less serious felonies; $30 is assessed for misdemeanors. Program
administration is paid through a legislative appropriation. The program
receives an annual VOCA grant.
ELIGIBILITY
REQUIREMENTS
Law enforcement reporting period: 10 days
Filing period: 3 years
Exceptions: Time limits are stayed until child victim reaches age of
majority. For adults, good-cause exception to reporting period only.
PROCEDURES
Applications are filed with the program, and determinations are made
by the program administrator.
Appeals: An applicant
may submit a request for reconsideration of the program administrator's
decision. After a decision on reconsideration, the applicant may appeal
pursuant to the Administrative Procedures Act.
