Crosbie, Michael Plummer
Created in 1976, as an independent executive branch agency. Five board
members, not all of whom shall be engaged in the same occupation or profession,
but at least one of whom shall be a victim or victim advocate, are appointed
by the governor.
FUNDING
The program receives 3.4% of court cost for every felony and misdemeanor
conviction. The program also receives a VOCA compensation grant annually.
ELIGIBILITY
REQUIREMENTS
Law enforcement reporting period: 48 hours
Filing period: 5 years for crimes occurring after July 15, 1998; 1 year
for crimes prior to July 15, 1998
Exceptions: good cause
PROCEDURES
After each application is analyzed by the administrative staff and director,
one board member makes a recommendation which is sent to the claimant,
who then has 15 days within which to file exceptions. After review by
the full board, a vote is taken at the next scheduled monthly meeting.
Appeals: Applicant
has 30 days from full board decision to file an appeal in circuit court.
